KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani has reiterated his administration’s unstinted support to his government’s tem for peace negotiations with Taliban.

At a meeting with the Massoum Stanikzai-led team here on Sunday night, the president said the entire nation stood firmly behind the delegation.

Ghani commended the negotiators, who leave for Doha today, for effectively representing the Afghan state and nation in the first round of talks.

He acknowledged the negotiators had considered the views of different strata of Afghan society, as well as advice from the Loya Jirga.

The Afghan government and masses were supportive of the negotiators and hoped they would resume talks with the Taliban in light of the Constitution and public aspirations, he said.

In response, the negotiators said people’s views would be a good guideline for them in the second round of peace parleys.

The next round of the dialogue, beginning on Tuesday, will largely focus on reining in the rising violence, achieving a ceasefire and a future government system.

Stanikzai said they had heard the views of legislators, representatives of women, youth and civil society on the peace process.

Before leaving for Doha, members of Kabul’s team thrice met the leadership committee of the High Council for National Reconciliation.
