KABUL (Pajhwok): A member of the Afghan government negotiating team on Tuesday said they did not want to remove the Taliban from the ongoing negotiating table despite some problems in the process.

Dr. Talib, a member of the government’s peace negotiating team, made the remarks at a training workshop for journalists organized by the State Ministry in Peace Affairs.

He said that news reports about the peace process had complexity and journalists should be careful in this regard.

The first phase of talks should have not been prolonged for three months as agenda of talks did not require that much discussion, he added.

“Most of the issues were agreeable by both sides, but emphasis on the Doha deal to be a basis for intra-Afghan talks and religious issues in negotiations pressured our team,” Talib said.

He said he felt the Taliban side was honest about peace talks, but problems arose when real talks happened on the table.

Sayed Sadat Mansoor Naderi, state minister in peace affairs and a member of the negotiating team, said that open media was like a bridge between state and the nation and it should play special role in peace journalism for paving way for the return of peace to the country.

Talib said that the government has accelerated efforts for peace on the national and international levels.

Deputy state minister in peace affairs, Abullah Khenjani, talking to the workshop said, “We had reports about war for almost two decades, but reporting about peace is different.”

He assured journalists of sharing information about developments in the ongoing peace process.

The workshop was attended by 35 journalists from 30 different media outlets in Kabul and the initiative was funded by USAID.
