Kabul University attack: 2 IS men sentenced to death

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Supreme Court on Thursday said the appellate court dealing with terrorism related crimes has sentenced five accused to jail terms from two to 25 years.

Four months back, a number of assailants attacked the Kabul University and killed 32 people and injured 50 others.

A statement from the Supreme Court received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that appellate court responding to terrorism related cases in Bagram Detention Center, in a judicial session on Tuesday announced its verdict in presence of prosecutors, accused and their defense lawyers.

Based on the verdict, Aadil aka Arash Talha accused of being a Daesh or Islamic State member, was awarded 21 years in jail and another three years in jail for forging national ID card, 24 years in jail for kidnapping cases and execution of Kabul University attack and assassination of government personnel.

Obaidullah Hammad son of Omra Khan was sentenced to various jail terms and capital punishment for being a member of Daesh and his involvement in different terrorist and kidnapping cases and assassinations.

Abdul Kabbar, son of Mohammad Noor, was sentenced to 16 years in jail on national treason and 12 years in jail over three kidnapping cases, the source added.

The Supreme Court said that Khuda Bakhsh son of Aghamir was sentenced to 10 years in jail for being a member of Daesh and 12 years over his involvement in kidnapping cases.

Izharuddin son of Muhayuddin was sentenced to two years in jail over carrying unlicensed weapons, the apex court said, adding Aziz Ahmad was announced innocent due to lack of evidence for his crimes.

People accused of kidnappings are also responsible to pay the ransom they had sought from the victims which amounts to $220,000, the source said.

Attackers on Kabul University are also responsible to pay three million afghanis for causing damage to the university, the court ruled.
