GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A district police chief has been killed in a landmine explosion in southern Ghazni province, an official said on Tuesday.

Provincial police head Mohammad Usman Janbaz told Pajhwok Afghan News the vehicle of Abdul Rahman Fateh, police chief for Deh Yak district, struck the bomb in Tasin area late on Monday.

He said Fateh was killed in the bombing and there were no other casualties. An investigation into the incident is underway.

Niamatullah, a resident of the area, said the police officer’s vehicle struck the bomb when he was patrolling the area. Fateh was killed on the spot, he added.

As usual, the Taliban claimed responsibility for the bombing. The group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted militants blew up the tank carrying the police officer.

He said four policemen, including the Deh Yak police chief, were killed and three others wounded in the bomb attack.
