WJ delegation to attend Moscow, Ankara summits

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Wolesi Jirga speaker on Monday said a delegation of the lower house of parliament would attend international conferences in Moscow and Ankara on the Afghanistan peace process.

Addressing a ceremony marking national day of journalists here, Mir Rahman Rahmani said he would be leading the delegation.

The Moscow conference on Afghan peace is expected to take place on next Thursday and Ankara conference in April. The conferences would be attended by representatives from a number of regional and cross-regional countries, Afghan officials, politicians and Taliban representatives.

Rahmani said the Wolesi Jirga delegation would travel to Moscow tomorrow, Tuesday.

Rahmani hoped the two conferences would lead to a permanent peace in Afghanistan and end of violence in the country.

He said that he would also raise his voice in support of journalists in both conferences.

The speaker asked the government to work for the security of journalists and media and prevent attacks on the community.

Khusal Asifi, Ariana Television director, talking on behalf of other media outlets in the meeting, asked the government to investigate the assassination cases of journalists and share their result with the media.

About the conferences in Moscow in Ankara, he asked the government and Taliban to support freedom of expression.

Danish Karokhel, editor in chief of Pajhwok Afghan News and Khawja Basir Fitri, a reporter of the news agency, were among many journalists who were praised in today’s ceremony.
