Ghazni police say unpaid for last 7 months

GHAZNI (Pajhwok): Police officials in southern Ghazni province say they have not been paid salary for the last seven months, confronting them with economic constraints.

The policemen say they have been fighting insurgents despite being in a difficult situation but the government treats them indifferently and does not pay their salaries.

Staff sergeant of Ghazni’s second police district, Khan Mohammad, told Pajhwok Afghan News that he had not received his salary for the past seven months. He said the government was refusing to release their salaries.

Shah Mohammad, another member of Ghazni Police, told Pajhwok Afghan News 460 policemen had not received their salaries. He said the government sometimes refused to pay salaries at all and argue that the budget has not been approved.

Other policemen had similar points and said they had many times shared the matter with police headquarters and the Ministry of Interior (MoI) but in vain.

Ghazni resident, Samiullah said all security personnel including police must be paid their salaries in time. He said if their salaries were not paid, then they would need to sell their weapons or ammunitions.

Ghazni police chief Brigadier General Mohammad UsmanJanbaz on the other hand said salaries of only 318 police personnel had been delayed.

He added a new system was being launched for police personnel who should be enrolled in the system. “It will take some time to address this issue”.

But Janbaz assured the issue would soon be addressed and the remaining police personnel would be paid their salaries of the past seven months.

It is worth mentioning that earlier police personnel of other provinces had made similar complaints.
