Nothing done to support culturists in Shiberghan

SHIBERGHAN (Pajhwok): Culturists in Shiberghan, the capital of northern Jawzjan province, say no effective work has been done by the authorities to promote cultural activities and make available necessary facilities for them.

They raised the claim at a ceremony at the Lincoln Learning Center for narrating their collection of poems titled as “The treasure”.

AbdulBasir Sane, a poet who has published eight collections of his poetry on personal expenses, told Pajhwok Afghan News that literary and cultural activities were faced with multiple problems and challenges in Shiberghan city.

He said there was no authority to bring together culturists and poets in order to unite them.

Pir Mohammad Asad, a cultural figure, said conditions for the literary circle were cramped.

He added cultural figures were struggling with inequalities and other problems but they still raised their voices and expressed the pain of the people.

Kiramatullah Azizi, information and culture director, while confirming the problems mentioned by cultural figures, said his department did not have a special budget for holding cultural gatherings.

“We have always used provincial facilities and sought cooperation and financial support from businessmen, institutions and non-governmental organizations to arrange cultural events,” he added.

However, Azizi said they had been able to do useful work in the field of cultural issues without reasonable financial resources.

Last year, dozens of cultural and literary programs were launched by the department in the city of Shiberghan, leaving good memories with people.
