Taliban kill 7 ANA soldiers in Balkh attack

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Seven Afghan National Army (ANA) personnel have been killed as a result of a Taliban attack on a security post in northern Balkh province, a source said on Thursday.

A reliable security source, wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the attack on the ANA post took place in the Sharsharak area of Balkh district on Wednesday night.

The source added a clash, triggered by the attack at 3am, was still ongoing. Some security personnel were besieged but commando reinforcements have come to their rescue.

Balkh resident Mohammad Siraj said clashes between government forces and Taliban had been ongoing since last night and that there were no reports of civilian casualties.

Mohammad Afzal Hadid, head of the provincial council, confirmed the clash but stopped short of providing further details.

A spokesman for the 209th Shaheen Military Corps in the north told Pajhwok they had no information about the incident.
