Police suffer casualties in Khost, Uruzgan & Faryab

KABUL (Pajhwok): Policemen have suffered casualties in Khost, Uruzgan and Faryab provinces, local officials said on Thursday.

Khost security officials said the Taliban killed two policemen and wounded a third during an ambush in Sabari district on Wednesday evening.

Najib Ahmad Najib, Khost police spokesman, said the incident occurred in the Yaqubi Township of the district.

He told Pajhwok Afghan News the policemen were ambushed as they were carrying payments for their colleagues.

Najib said a civilian was wounded in the incident but the Taliban insurgents have not commented in this regard.

Separately, one policeman was killed and 17 others were wounded, including a district police chief,, as a result of a clash in Tirinkot, the capital of central Uruzgan province.

A source, wishing anonymity, said the clash between the Taliban and government forces erupted on Wednesday night. The Taliban also suffered casualties.

Separately, three policemen were killed and two others wounded in northwestern Faryab province.

Abdul Karim Yourish, police spokesman, said the Taliban attacked security posts in Pashtunkot district on Wednesday night, killing three policemen and wounding two others.

The source added the militants also suffered heavy casualties in the clash. However, he did not offer specific casualty figures.

On the other hand, the Taliban said four security personnel were killed and some others wounded in the incident.
