Ghazni: Giro district police chief killed in blast

GHAZNI CITY (Pajhwok): A district police chief has been killed in southern Ghazni province, officials said on Monday.

Wahedullah Jumazada, spokesman for the Ghazni governor told Pajhwok Afghan News Giro district police chief, Capt. Abdul Ghafoor was killed in a blast in Khwaja Omari town.

“Some policemen of Giro district serve in Khwaja Omari. The police officer was visiting the district where his vehicle struck the landmine,” he added.

Abdul Ghafoor was killed in the blast, which came a week after police chiefs for Deh Yak and Nawa districts were killed in explosions.

Separately, an Afghan Local Police (ALP) officer was killed in southeastern Paktika province, a source told Pajhwok.

The ALP chief for YahyaKhel district and another policeman were killed in a targeted blast yesterday.

A local resident, Sayed Nazir confirmed the killings. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the incidents.
