KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): The governor of northern Kunduz province says the security situation of the province has improved and militants could no longer capture it.
In an exclusive interview, Abdul SatarMirzakwal, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants had intensified their attacks after announcement of US withdrawal from Afghanistan.
He said the militants had the plan to overrun the province but security forces thwarted their bid and currently everything was under control.
“The people know their security forces can thwart attacks of insurgents in the city and districts,” he added.
According to Mirzakwal, the militants had been creating problems for traders on highways but security forces had resolved this problem as well.
According to him, security forces have put in place measures to defend the city and districts.
The governor also said that the militants were tired of the conflict and had launched efforts for peace.
On the other hand, hundreds of projects were implemented at a cost of 12 billion afghanis in Kunduz province last year, Mirzakwal said.
“At least 424 projects have been implemented and put into service and work is underway on 727 more projects and the work will complete soon,” he informed.
He said the most important projects were canals of Dasht-i-Archi and Shah Rawan that irrigate thousands of acres of land.
