8 security personnel freed from Taliban prison in Baghlan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Eight security personnel have been released from a Taliban prisoner as a result of a commando raid, the Ministry of Defence said on Monday (MoD).

Deputy spokesman for MoD Fawad Aman said the commandos raided the Taliban prison in the Omarkhel village of Baghlan-i-Markazi district late on Sunday night.

He said eight Afghan security force members were released in the overnight operation, which was also confirmed by Javed Ahmad Basharat, the provincial police spokesman.

Basharat said the operation by the ANA Special Forces opened the way for more troops to enter the troubled Baghlan-i-Markazi district.

Over the past few days, fierce clashes have been ongoing between the security forces and the Taliban in district. Thousands of families have fled to safe areas;
