KABUL (Pajhwok): The Attorney General Office (AGO) investigated 1,353 cases of administrative corruption and referred to courts 1,424 accused people during the past four months, an official said on Tuesday.

Addressing reporters here, AGO spokesperson Jamshid Rasouli said a total of 1,353 cases had been investigated in the first four months of ongoing solar year.

He said of these cases 1,276 belonged to the AGO anti-corruption department while 77 were investigated in the Centre of Anti-Corruption Justice Task Forces (CACJTF).

Rasouli said 1,424 people were identified as accused or criminals in these cases. Of them 323 are in detention, 578 bailed out while 195 were freed on the basis of court judgment. The jobs of 30 accused were suspended, 298 are under investigation while 68 placed on exit control list.

He said the crimes committed by these persons included bribes, misuse of authority, embezzlement, document theft, forgery, preventing justice, treason, hiding reality and negligence in performing their responsibilities. He said 77 corruption related cases were addressed by the CACJTF in the past four months.

Out of total 77 cases, nine were referred to the concerned authority, five sent back to the court for trial completion while 61 are being addressed.

Without giving details, the AGO spokesman said corruption cases of five generals, three senators, four mayors and two members of the Provincial Councils included in these cases.

He added back in 2019, 75 incidents of targeted killing and in 2020, 90 incidents of targeted killing had been addressed by the internal and external crime wing of AGO.
