Baghlan fighting displaces over 15,000 families

PUL-I—KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The Refugee and Repatriation Department of northern Baghlan province on Sunday said 15,000 families have been displaced by recent fighting.

SharifullahShafaq, head of the Refugee Department, said heavy fightings have been underway in different parts of the province over the past one and a half months.

He said 15,000 families from provincial capital Pul-i-Khumri, Nahrin, Dahna Ghori, Guzargah Noor, Burka, Jalgai and MarkaziBaghlan districts had been displaced and no assistance had reached them since their displacement.

“These displaced families have requested assistance in written, there are thousands of other displaced families who have not requested assistance,” he said.

According to Shafaq, the survey of 1,360 families had been completed but there was nothing to distribute among them.

Shah Mahmood, a resident of HussainKhelo locality of Pul—Khumri, said he migrated to the city due to the conflict.

“Twice I have submitted application for assistance to the refugee department. There is too much rush but no one is provided with assistance.”

Syed Mohammad, another displaced person who migrated from Baghlan-e-Markazi, said: “We left behind everything we had in the house and just managed to flee, but from the past 20 days we have nothing and nobody has provided us any assistance.”
