MAIMANA (Pajhwok): Eight shops were burnt and one person killed as a result of a market fire in the Qaisar district of northwestern Faryab province on Sunday.
Sayed Abdul Baqi Hashimi, Qaisar district chief, told Pajhwok Afghan News the incident occurred at around 9am.
The fire broke out at a shop where fuel was being unloaded from a tanker, resulting in huge financial losses to eight shops in the market and killing an individual named Abdul Rauf.
The exact amount of losses was yet to be known, the district chief said, adding the fire broke out due to negligence.
Hashimi said there was no fire department in the district but people prevented the blaze from spreading.
Sibghatullah, a local resident told Pajhwok Afghan News saw many gas cylinders exploding after the fire erupted. As a result, people ran pell-mell.
