Taliban fighters overrun Shahrak district of Ghor

FEROZKOH (Pajhwok): The Shahrak district of western Ghor province has fallen to the Taliban, local sources claimed on Monday.

However, the governor, expressing his unawareness, said commandos had reached Ghor and a large-scale operation would begin soon in the district.

A security official, wishing anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News on Sunday evening the Taliban had overrun Shahrak district without any clash.

The source added the security forces and district officials had retreated to the Tangi village of the district.

Meanwhile, the Taliban shared videos on social media showing the fighters controlling the district building and the police headquarters.

In the meantime, the 207th Zafar Military corps said dozens of commandos had been sent to Dolina district near Shahrak.

Ghor Governor Abdul Zaher Faiz Zada said they could not establish any connection with district officials because telecommunication networks had been cut off.

He added commando forces had arrived in Ferozkoh, the provincial capital, and they would soon launch raids in Shahrak district.

The Taliban have not yet commented in this regard.
