Deputy Paktika governor arrested in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): The deputy governor of southeastern Paktika province was arrested on Wednesday in Kabul, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) said.

MoI spokesman Tariq Aryan, without giving details, said Mohammad Ibrahim Katawazai was arrested by Kabul police and was being investigated.

According to a well-placed source, Katawazai was arrested in connection with a murder case.

GhulamHaidar, father of Ghulam Rahman Hamdard, former head of Works and Social Affairs Department of Paktia province, has claimed that Ghulam Hamdard was murdered by Katawazai on May 05.

Before the murder, Katawzai had threatened Hamdard who had previously claimed that if he was murdered, it would be the handiwork of Katawazai.

The father of Ghulam Hamdard told police: “When Hamdard was murdered, we moved judicial organs and at that time Mohammad Ibrahim Katawazai was Assistant Cooperative Head of NDS, he was later dismissed from his job and sent to jail but after his release his case was not decided.”

He added: “We are suppressed, we went to the president, interior minister, national security advisor, NDS head and attorney general, but nobody paid head to our complaint. Now we want you (Kabul police) to arrest Katawazai and refer him to judiciary we have enough evidence in support of our claim.”
