12 school students poisoned in Bamyan

BAMAYN (Pajhwok): At least 12 schoolgirls in central Bamayn province were poisoned for unknown reasons on Thursday but their health condition is said to be stable, officials said.

Bamyan police spokesman, Hamayoon Ailkhani told Pajhwok Afghan News the students of 11th grade of Kart-i-Sulh School showed signs of dizziness, headache, nausea and weakness at around 11:25am.

He said that the cause of the of the poisoning was still not clear but the school administration immediately evacuated the students to Bamayn Provincial Hospital.

Provincial education director, Mohammad Ayoub Amiri confirmed the incident and said the girls were poisoned in their final class.

Police said they have begun investigating into the cause of poisoning with the school administration and would share the results after the investigation is completed.

A doctor in Bamayn provincial hospital, who wished anonymity, said the students were in stable condition and that they would be discharged after required medical treatment.
