4 killed, dozens of houses damaged in Balkh car bombing

MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Local security officials on Thursday said an explosives-laden car was identified and destroyed before it reached its target in northern Balkh province.

Adil Shah Adil, police spokesman, told Pajhwok Afghan News the security forces identified an explosives-packed Humvee that the Taliban wanted to crash into the police headquarters of near the headquarters of Dawlatabad district at midnight.

He said the vehicle was blown up before it reached the target. The blast caused casualties to local residents, he said, without providing further details.

Jalaluddin Qarizada, Dawlatabad district chief, said three civilians including a child and a woman as well as a security force member were killed.

The explosion also damaged around 50 houses in the area, the district chief added.

A resident of the area, Abdul Rahim, said 30 houses were destroyed and a number of others partially damaged in the explosion.

He asses several people were still trapped under the debris of of the houses that collapsed as a result of the massive explosion.

On the other hand, an official told Pajhwok that a security force member was killed and 11 others were wounded in the incident.

He claimed the explosion damaged the district office complex, police and NDS headquarters, women’s affairs department and other buildings.

A statement from the 209th Shaheen Military Corps said two Taliban suicide attackers were also killed in the incident.

However, the insurgent movement has not yet comment on the incident.
