PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan has once again ruled out the possibility of hosting US military bases on its soil for post-withdrawal operations in neighbouring Afghanistan.
Prime Minister Imran Khan, reiterating Pakistan’s stance on the issue, made clear Islamabad would not allow foreign military bases on its soil.
In an interview with HBO Axios, the premier was asked for his comments on giving access to the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) to military bases. “Absolutely not,” he replied.
The Biden administration is reportedly in talks with Pakistan and other regional countries on cooperation in future operations in Afghanistan.
Khan maintained “There’s no way we’re going to allow any bases or any sort of action from Pakistani territory into Afghanistan. Absolutely, not.”
At a White House news conference, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan had said last month that they had held constructive discussions with Pakistan about the future of America’s capabilities to ensure that Afghanistan never again became a terrorist safe haven.
