FAIZABAD (Pajhwok): The Taliban have overrun the Khash district of northeastern Badakhshan province, a security official said on Wednesday.

A security official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Pajhwok Afghan News the militants captured Khash district after several hours of clash at around 8:00pm on Tuesday night.

He said both the Taliban and security forces were suffered casualties and some of the security personnel had gone missing.

The governor’s house has so far made no comment on the fall of the district.

Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said their fighters overrun the Khash district and captured many weapons and ammunition.

He said nothing about the casualties of the both sides.

In the last two months, about 60 districts have been captured by the Taliban.

But Rohullah Ahmadzai, a spokesman for the Ministry of Defence, said the security forces had made a tactical fall back in some districts.
