Khostis protest against illegal land distribution

KHOST CITY (Pajhwok): Youth and civil society activists in southeastern Khost province on Monday staged a protest demonstration against illegal distribution of state land by local officials.

The protestors who gathered in front of Khost governor’s house in the provincial capital also shut the governor’s house gate for an hour.

The demonstrators who also carried copies of the holy Quran asked government officials to fear the holy book and stop illegal distribution of land.

One of the protestors, Noorullah Afghan, said that the local administration had recently started distribution of land plots to some people in the western part of Khost city, the provincial capital.

He said state owned land in other parts of the province was also intended to be distributed but people would not allow anyone to use the land for personal benefit.

“The land which was recently dedicated by youths to Nomo Nawi High School is distributed to officials under different pretexts… we want the land looting should stop in Khost,” he said.

Faridullah Qurban, another protestor, told Pajhwok Afghan News that government officials were usurping state land taking advantage of the chaotic situation instead of working for ending miseries in the country.

“The country is in very bad situation, youths support security forces and the government, but officials misuse this situation, they have started looting. But they should know that people and youths would not let them do so,” he said.

Khost governor’s spokesman, TalibMangal told Pajhwok that they were following the president’s order for recovering usurped land and green areas. He said that no one would be allowed to illegally distribute state land to others.

“The local administration is serious about land grabbing and has provided a very clear report to the president,” he added.
