KABUL (Pajhwok): European Union (EU) Special Acting Envoy for Afghanistan Tomas Niklasson has urged for a mediator to forge stalled Afghan peace talks.

On his official twitter handler, the EU envoy said: “42 intense hours in #Doha at 45 degrees. Talks with both negotiation teams to the #AfghanPeaceProcess, India’s Ambassador @d_mittal73, and EU Heads of Mission. Mediation is needed to help the parties reach a negotiated settlement. Time is of the essence to prevent a civil war.”

It is worth mentioning that Afghan Chief Negotiator Masoum Stanikzai has often made similar demand.

After returning from Doha, Niklasson met Foreign Minister Hanif Atmar and informed him about recent development on peace process.

He expressed concern over ongoing situation in the country and added that human rights violation taking place in areas under the Taliban control.
