PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan’s top security and intelligence officials have arrived in the United States for talks on the emerging situation in Afghanistan.

National Security Adviser (NSA) Moeed Yusuf and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lt. Gen. Faiz Hameed landed in Washington on Tuesday.

Discussions between the two sides will focus on Afghanistan and other issues of bilateral interest.

Yusuf and his US counterpart Jake Sullivan will follow up on the issues they discussed in their first meeting in Geneva in May.

Dawn reported the Pakistani NSA, who is staying in Washington for more than a week, will meet US legislators and other senior officials.

“The ISI chief will have separate meetings with his counterparts in the American intelligence agencies and other senior officials.”

The visit is seen in the backdrop of renewed US efforts to fashion a regional response to the Afghan problem and stop the Taliban overrunning Kabul.
