Afghanistan Covid-19 recoveries near 100,000 mark

KABUL (Pajhwok): At least 484 new Covid-19 cases and 37 deaths from the virus have been recorded in Afghanistan in the last 24 hours, the Ministry of Public Health said on Sunday.

The ministry said 2,548 tests were conducted across the country in the past 24 hours and the virus was detected in 484 people, taking Afghanistan’s overall tally to 147,985.

Western Herat recorded the highest number of cases (133) followed by northwestern Jawzjan province where the virus was detected in 42 people.

At least 39 new cases were found in Daikundi, 34 in Kunar, 31 each in Nangarhar and Badghis, 28 in Paktika, 23 in Kabul, 18 in Laghman, 15 in MaidanWardak, 13 each in Balkh and Takhar, 10 in Badakhshan, eight each in Kandahar, Ghor and Kunduz, six in Paktia, five each in Parwan, Farah and Khost, three in Sar-i-Pul and one in Faryab province.

At least 1,341 individuals recovered from the pandemic during the period, pushing the number of total recoveries to 99,449.

A statement from MoPH said 37 people died of the virus in the past 24 hours, taking the overall death toll to 6,774.

The global infection tally has reached 197 million, with over 4.2 million losing their lives to the pandemic.
