Menapal laid to rest in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): Head of the Government Media and Information Centre (GMIC) Dawa Khan Menapal was laid to rest on Saturday in the Shura-e-Melli cemetery in capital Kabul.

Menapal was gunned down by Taliban assailants in the limits of 7th police district on Friday afternoon. Two more people were injured in the incident.

Wolesi Jirga members, Justice Minister Fazal Ahmad Manavi, Waheed Umar, Hussain Murtazavi and spokespersons of different institutions took part in his funeral.

Presidential Advisor Waheed Umar dubbed Menapal a loving person with a clean heart.

He said: “The voice and idea that Menapal had raised will not be silenced by killing him, thousands of other Menapal are living and they will echo his vision and voice.”

Mirza Mohammad Katawazai, a lawmaker from Paktika province, said: “If the government is unable to identify the murderers of Menapal, the Sulaimankhel tribe is ready to unearth and punish his murders.”

NajibSharifi, the Journalists Safety Organisation (JSO) head, termed Menapal’s murder a huge loss and said: “We will continue fighting persecution and injustice. Menapal always talked the truth,” he said.
