MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Education officials in northern Balkh province say that all schools in Mazar-i-Sharif, the provincial capital, and districts are open.

AliullahAmiri, director of Balkh education department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that all schools in the province were open and first-term exams were underway.

Schools are also open in districts which have fallen to Taliban and there are no any problems on the regard, he said.

“All our schools are open right now, exams are underway, only a limited number of school buildings are damaged in some areas due to conflicts and efforts are on to repair them,” he added.

In response to a question, Amiri said that they did not receive any reports of removing some subjects from school books by the Taliban.

Mir Alam, a schoolteacher in Balkh district of Balkh province, told Pajhwok that schools were open as normal in areas fallen to Taliban.

He said that the exams had been started and Taliban’s education commission was observing the process.

The Taliban had instructed that girls should continue their education by observing Islamic Hijab, he added.

Rukhsar, a student in Sultan Razia High School in Mazar-i-Sharif city, said that Afghan forces and the Taliban should take special care of school students during conflict.

She said that the education sector was apolitical and civilian and the warring sides should not use it for their own goals.
