KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani met with jihadi and political figures after arriving in Mazar-i-Sharif, the capital of northern Balkh province, on Wednesday.

The president, at the head of a high-ranking government delegation, traveled to Balkh province to review the situation in the north of the country.

According to a Presidential Palace statement, the president first met with political and jihadi figures including Marshal Abdul Rashid Dostum, former governor Atta Mohammad Noor, and Mohammad Mohaqiq, senior presidential adviser, and Juma Khan Hamdard, Chairman of Hezb-e-Islami Unity Councils in Mazar-i-Sharif.

The statement said the meeting examined the general situation in the northern zone and held comprehensive discussions on coordination, equipping and cohesion and mobilization of uprisings forces under the umbrella of security and defense forces.

The president, who is commander-in-chief of the armed forces, also chaired a senior security meeting.

The security and defense officials of the northern zone first shared their readiness reports and plans to control the security situation with the president and said that they fully supported the uprisings within the government framework and were carrying out a clearing operation jointly in the northern zone.

After hearing their reports and plans, the president gave necessary instructions to the relevant officials in order to control the situation in the northern zone.
