Taliban’s attack on Maimana city repelled: Officials

MAIMANA CITY (Pajhwok): Local security officials on Wednesday said that the Taliban’s attack on Maimana city, capital of northwestern Faryab province was repelled with the militants suffered many casualties.

Gen. Rohullah Khalil Oghli, Faryab police chief told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Taliban on Tuesday night attacked the first police district of Maimana city three times, but nine of the insurgents were killed and 12 others wounded in retaliatory action.

He said that the militants were defeated and many weapons were seized by Afghan security forces after the fight.

Oghli did not provide information about the casualties of Afghan security forces in the battle, but another security official who wished to go unnamed said that one soldier was killed and three others wounded in the incident.

The Taliban confirmed the death of four of their fighters and injury of three others in the fight. They also said that some of their weapons seized by Afghan forces.

However, the group added that two Afghan soldiers were killed and three others wounded in the battle.

Meanwhile, Faryab police said that a police officer was killed and three others injured after their Humvee tank overturned in Maimana city.
