MEHTHARLAM (Pajhwok): Four former officials of eastern Laghman, including the governor, have been released after 10 days of captivity.

Former Laghman governor Abdul Wali Wahidzai, police chief Litfullah Kamran, provincial council chairman Atiqullah Abdul Rahimzai and former national directorate of security chief, Shahidullah Shahid captured by the Taliban 10 days ago after the province was handed over to the Taliban peacefully.

However, some people criticized Taliban arresting the four individuals and reportedly tortured them despite the movement had declared a general amnesty.

The provincial administration has recently published a picture shows that the four individuals were released and returned to their homes by the new police chief of Laghman, Mauliv Faisal in compliance with the decree from the Sheikh Haibatullah Akhundzada, leader of the Islamic Emirate.

The photos show the former Laghman officials wore white clothes, black vests and white pajamas by and seemingly happy.

Bakhtar News Agency quoted Maulvi Faizal that the former officials were arrested around two weeks ago and released following the order of Amir-ul-Muminin.

Earlier, some Taliban leaders said these individuals had been detained on charges of withdrawing large amount of money from a bank.
