Ex-govt, Taliban negotiators hold talks on inclusive set-up

KABUL (Pajhwok): Former Afghan government’s delegation says majority of its members are still in Doha where they held a lengthy discussion over the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan with the Taliban negotiators on Sunday night.

Deposed president Ashraf Ghani’s government sent its negotiating team to Doha 11 months back for talks with the Taliban, both sides hardly held meetings with no substantial progress.

The former government negotiating team members are in Doha when majority of the Taliban negotiating team members are in Kabul and have been in talks over the formation of an inclusive government with different parties.

AttaullahLodin, the negotiating team member, told Pajhwok Afghan News that more than 10 members of their negotiating team were present in Doha.

He rejected media reports that former government negotiating team members had flown to the US and other European countries.

He said they held meeting with Taliban Qatar Office Deputy Head Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanikzai on Sunday night.

“A lengthy discussion was held over the formation of inclusive government in Afghanistan. They invited us to visit Kabul together with Taliban.”

“The Taliban hope that an inclusive government would be formed in Afghanistan where people will have complete safety. We prefer return to Kabul and to our own people.”

Lodin said some members might have gone to other countries where their families lived but they preferred to stay in Kabul and serve their people.

The Taliban political office in Qatar did not say anything about the overnight meeting.
