Carrying Taliban flags, female students rally for rights

KABUL (Pajhwok): Tens of female students from Kabul university’s Education Faculty on Saturday termed segregated classes for boys and girls at universities a positive move and demanded the protection of their rights in different fields.

The students clad in black hijab carried Taliban flags and rallied after a gathering and chanted slogans in the support of the Islamic Emirate, Islamic system.

SamiaZahidi, one of the students, while supporting segregation education strategy, said Afghanistan was an Islamic society and a large number of families did not send their girls to schools and universities due to co-education.

She said separation of boys and girls was a positive move and they fully support higher education minister’s step.

“We want the Islamic Emirate to ensure the protection of women rights and facilitate them in education, health, work and other areas of life. A separate section should be allotted in the treasury to support less fortunate women.”

ShabanaSarwari, another participant, said: “We women want our religious rights guaranteed in Islam.”

Mohammad DawodHaqqani, higher education ministry’s foreign affairs branch head, said that women rights would be given top priority in the Taliban government.

He said similar events should be coordinated with the government one day prior to its lunched to ensure security and preparation.
