In talks with Pakistan to allow patients’ entry: commissary

JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Officials at the Torkham commissary in eastern Nangarhar province say talks are underway with Pakistani side to facilitate the entry of Afghan patients.

According to the commissary, up to 40 patients along with one relative each are allowed to travel to Pakistan for treatment every day.

But patients in Torkham gate say they are unable to take their patients to Pakistan after spending there many nights.

Most patients going to Pakistan have cancer and other diseases that are difficult and expensive to be treated here in Afghanistan.

Torkham commissary official Sayed GhaziullahHashimi told Pajhwok he was in talks with the Pakistan side to facilitate the entry of patients to the country.

“We assure the people that our foreign minister and leaders have discussed the issue with Pakistan, so In Shah Allah (God willing), these problems will end,” he added.

According to him, at least 40 patients and their relative are allowed to travel to Pakistan in every 24 hours.

Hashimi urged people to at least inquire about the situation in Torkham before approaching the crossing point.

Atal Khan said, “I was in Torkham from morning to evening yesterday. Only six patients were allowed at noon and no one else was allowed.”

Abdul Nabi, who took his patient to Torkham, said he came to Torkham every day, but he had so far been unable get a chance to take his patient to Pakistan for medical treatment.

He urged the local authorities to resolve the issue through dialogue with the Pakistani side so that patients did not face any problem.
