46 worshipers killed, 143 injured in Kunduz mosque bombing

KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): Forty-six people were killed and over 140 others injured in a bomb blast in northern Kunduz province on Friday, according to local sources.

The blast happened inside Syedabad Mosque in Kunduz City, the mosque belonged to Shia worshipers situated in the Khanabad Bandar locality.

Kunduz Deputy Police Chief Mawlavi Mohammad Obaida told reporters initial probe showed the blast was a suicide.

He did not provide information about casualties but Information Department Head Matiullah Rohani said 46 worshipers were killed and 143 others injured.

Asadullah, an eyewitness, said around 300 worshipers were present in the mosque at the time of blast.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.
