47 worshipers killed, 90 injured in Kandahar mosque bombing

KANDHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Forty-seven people were killed and 90 others injured in Friday suicide bombing inside a mosque in Kandahar City, the capital of southern Kandahar province, according to hospital sources on Saturday.

The blast happened at around 1:00pm during Friday prayer congregation on Friday.

A well-placed security source said four suicide blasts took place inside Shia worshipers’ mosque.

Two suicide bombers detonated themselves in the Mosque gate while two others forced their way inside mosque and detonated themselves.

Hospital sources confirmed receiving 47 bodies and 90 wounded from the site of the blast.

An official of Mirwais Hospital of Kandahar city who wished to go unnamed, said that they received 47 bodies and 90 injured.

he said that the toll of deaths was increased after a number of people with serious wounds succumbed.

It is worth mentioning that 46 people were killed and 143 others injured in similar bombing in northern Kunduz province last week.

Daesh claimed responsibility for Kunduz Mosque bombing while no group claimed credit for Kandahar mosque bombing.
