ARCS shelter house inaugurated in Kandahar

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Construction of the Afghanistan Red Crescent Society’s (ARCS) three-storey shelter house has been completed in southern Kandahar province.

Located in the Aino Mena township of Kandahar City, the shelter house will dispatch support to venerable people and families in the southwestern zone.

ARCS chief for southwestern zone Ahmad Javed Nekzad said the building had been built on an area of 820 square metres at a cost of 61 million afghanis.

Governor Mohammad Yousuf Wafa thanked ARCS officials and generous businessmen for constructing the facility, where vulnerable individuals would be provided shelter.

In the present circumstances, he said, cooperation and assistance from charitable organisations was direly needed as the country was going through a difficult phase.

Ainuddin Turabi, deputy head of ACRS, said orphans, mentally-challenged individuals and venerable women at the zonal level would be provided shelter in the newly-constructed facility.

Public Health Director Hafiz Abdul Hai Abbas said efforts were ongoing to attract support from WHO, ICRC and other organisations.
