Arrests made in connection with mosque attack’

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Some suspects have been arrested in connection with a deadly attack on a mosque in southern Kandahar province, a top security official said on Tuesday.

Tens of worshipers were killed and scores injured in the suicide attack inside the Shiite mosque in Kandahar City last month. Daesh had claimed responsibility.

Police chief Maulvi Abdul Ghaffar Mohammadi said an investigation into the incident was still underway and some individuals had been arrested.

He added intelligence personnel had intensified efforts to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Mohammadi asked journalists to cooperate with them and convey realities to the masses.

Some reporters, he said, had shared their problems with police. They have been assured that nobody will be allowed to cause them problems.

Recently, problems were created for some reporters, who were summoned to police stations for recording their statements.

Mohammadi again assured journalists of complete independence and said they could discharge their duties freely and nobody would be allowed to create hurdles to their work.
