Ghori Cement Factory production down by 50pc

PUL-I-KHUMRI (Pajhwok): The Ghori Cement Factory’s production has declined by 50 percent due to decreasing demand, officials in northern Baghlan province in northern Baghlan province say.

Eng. Nazar Mohammad Mamozai, technical affairs head of the factory, linked the fall in production to lack of funds to purchase raw energy material and decline in demand.

After the fall of previous regime, banking curbs hampered the factory’s production and caused it a funding crisis.

“We are unable to purchase raw energy material for the factory due to the lack of funds. Therefore, its production has gone down by 50 percent,” he explained.

In the past, the official recalled, the factory produced 400 tonnes of cement in 24 hours but that quantity has now slumped to 200 tonnes.”

As a result of recent changes, there demand for cement has decreased and that has also affected the factory’s production level.

“We have recently inked a contract with a company. Under the agreement, we are committed to providing Ghori cement to the domestic markets.”

Having two production plants and 800 staffers working in two shifts, the factory can produce 600 tonnes of cement daily.
