Ex-officials’ houses be identified: Cabinet

KABUL (Pajhwok): The cabinet on Tuesday appointed a delegation to verify the ownership of private houses and vehicles of former officials or unknown people to hand them over to their owners.

The cabinet also directed the officials concerned not to keep detainees in custody beyond the defined date and also take necessary steps to prevent deforestation.

Verification of private houses and vehicles

Following the fall of the previous government in mid-August, a number of government officials fled Afghanistan, leaving behind homes and vehicles. There are reports that some of these houses are now claimed by some other people.

A statement from the Office of Administrative Affairs received by Pajhwok Afghan News said that today’s cabinet meeting discussed former officials properties and deforestation.

According to the statement, a delegation led by Mualvi Abdul Salam Haqqani, the head of Operation Department, was appointed to identify private houses and vehicles left behind by former officials or whose owners are unknown.

The statement added that the houses and vehicles will be handed over to their owners after verification.

Rights of prisoners and prevention of deforestation

The statement also said that the cabinet has directed all concerned organs to take care of detainees, not keep them beyond needed time, send their cases to courts and grant their rights.

The cabinet meeting approved the plan of the chosen delegation for prevention of deforestation.

The cabinet also banned the use of electric saws for cutting down forests and trees and said that those involved in such activities were punishable.
