KABUL (Pajhwok): The United Arab Emirate (UAE) has banned former Afghan government officials, including ex-president Ashraf Ghani, from engaging in political activity in the Arab country, an official said on Monday.

Ghani and a number of other former government officials fled the country on August 15, after the Taliban captured Kabul. Ghani and some other officials are currently based in the UAE.

Ahmadullah Wasiq, spokesman for the government, tweeted: “The UAE has banned all (Afghan) officials living in Dubai and other cities from engaging in political activities under Ashraf Ghani’s leadership.”

He wrote the restrictions had been placed on Ghani, former Balkh governor Atta Mohammad Noor and then national security advisor Hamdullah Mohib.

Neither Ghani nor the UAE government has commented yet on the ban.
