Turkey assists 1,000 needy families in Kabul

KABUL (Pajhwok): Turkey on Tuesday provided food in assistance to 1,000 needy families in the capital Kabul.

During distribution of the aid, Turkish envoy to Afghanistan, CihadErginay, said that his country had assisted the Afghans in various fields since the last 20 years, a process he added would continue.

He said that Turkey would increase its assistance to Afghan children and poor families and asked the international community to provide humanitarian aid to needy Afghans.

The Turkish ambassador said they distributed food to 1,000 needy families provided by the country’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority.

During the distribution of the aid, deputy refugees and repatriation minister, Khan Kharoti said that Turkey has always provided assistance to the Afghan people and hoped the country would continue its help to Afghanistan in the future.

He called on the international community to unblock Afghanistan’s frozen assets as it would help solve the country’s economic problems.

He said that the Afghan people were yet to receive the amount of aid the international community has previously pledged. He said that the world should increase its help with the Afghans.

Abdul MatinRahimzai, director of refugee affairs in Kabul, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the Turkish aid included flour, oil, rice, sugar and tea which were distributed to 1,000 needy families.

He said that 2,000 more families in Panjshir and Bamyan provinces would be also assisted by the end of the ongoing week.

Naqibullah, a resident of Kabul who received the aid, told Pajhwok, “I am unemployed, I was a teacher, now I am jobless, we are a nine member family, we have no one else to work, the aid will help us for a week.”

He said that a large number of Afghans were jobless and many of them were in need of assistance.

Naqibullah said that the current aid was not enough and that the international community should do more to help Afghans.

A day earlier, Turkey also provided food items in assistance to needy families in Mushi area of Kabul.
