PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): Four hundreds quick learning classes have been set up in central Logar province for 12,000 children who previously did not have access to education. The classrooms, funded by UNICEP, were recently distributed essential teaching materials.
Shapoor Arab, spokesman for the Logar education department, told Pajhwok Afghan News that 400 regional quick learning classes had been set up in all districts of the province, educating 12,000 children, half of them girls.
He added that these children were deprived of education in the past, but now they have access to education with the support of UNICEP. He says the classes are run by male and female teachers.
He informed teaching materials and class related equipments were distributed to the students of these classes. The items included books, notebooks, pens, pencils, colored pens, boxes and more, he said.
Arab also mentioned that trainings for newly hired teachers of newly formed classes in Charkh district had also started to enable them to learn best teaching methods of the curriculum. In this way, he says, teachers will be able to teach children in a better way.
Residents of remote areas of Logar’s capital and districts are happy that their children have been provided with education.
Mohammad Hashim, a resident of Dadokhel area in Pul-i-Alam, told Pajhwok Afghan News that thousands of children in his area had been deprived of education due to insecurity, fighting and other problems in recent years.
He says the Taliban did not allow girls to study in those days, but now girls as well as boys are allowed to study in these classes. But he called on the Taliban to allow girls to study beyond the sixth grade and to reopen their schools.
