KABUL (Pajhwok): Canada has promised resettling Afghanistan’s female judges and their families, an international media outlet reports.

The judges and their families have been living in limbo, largely in Greece, after their evacuation from Afghanistan in October last year.

Reuters quoted a spokesperson for the immigration minister as saying that the judges and their family members numbered 230.

Some of the female judges told the British media outlet currently they lacked health coverage because of their temporary visa status.

Besides the judges and their families, Canada will also take in Afghans from the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer communities.

Without setting a specific timeline, Toronto has pledged to resettle 40,000 Afghan refugees.

Since the Taliban takeover, Canada has resettled 3,915 Afghans with links to the Canadian government and another 2,535 on humanitarian grounds.
