3-day anti-polio drive begins in Sar-i-Pul

SAR-I-PUL (Pajhwok): A three-day anti-polio vaccination campaign targeting 160,000 children was launched in northern Sari Pul province on Monday, officials said.

Dr. Abdul Shakur, in charge of immunization section of Sar-i-Pul Public Health Department, said the vaccination campaign would be carried out in the entire province.

He said the campaign will be implemented in cooperation with the Department of Education, the governor’s house, the Department of Hajj and Religious Affairs and police headquarters.

He said polio was on the verge of eradication in Afghanistan as only four cases of the virus were registered in Afghanistan in 2021. There is no any case of the virus registered in the first 17 days of the new year, he said.

Shakur said that the polio campaign would be covered by national media so people would be informed on the regard.

The drive will cover all children in the province and no child would be deprived of the vaccination, he concluded.
