KABUL (Pajhwok): In its budget for 2022-23, India has earmarked an amount of Rs200 crore in development assistance to Afghanistan, Hindustan Times reported on Wednesday.

The Modi administration also allocated Rs100 crore for the development of Chabahar port in Iran. The three-way facility, aimed at regional connectivity, is also being used by Afghanistan.

The proposed aid for Afghanistan would be used to fund projects that India has been implementing in Afghanistan, the newspaper said.

The assistance will also be used to provide relief and humanitarian supplies to the Afghans, and to implement existing schemes such as scholarships for Afghan students.

Since 2001, India has emerged as the largest regional donor to the war-hit country, with pledges of about $3 billion.

Having airlifted 6.6 tonnes of medicines and 500,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccines to Afghanistan, India is working with Pakistan to transport 50,000 tonnes of wheat to the impoverished country.
