2 arrested over weapons smuggling to Pakistan

KANDAHAR CITY (Pajhwok): Two people were arrested in Spin Boldak district of southern Kandahar province for smuggling weapons to Pakistan, officials said on Sunday.

MualviShakib, spokesman of 205 Badr Military Corps in Kandahar, told Pajhwok Afghan News the men were arrested on Saturday night in SheroObo area of ​​Spin Boldak district at the zero-point area of Durand Line while smuggling weapons to Pakistan.

“Late last night, six people were smuggling weapons into Pakistan in a vehicle that had been identified by border forces who ordered the driver to stop, but the men did not stop,” he said.

He said border forces chased the vehicle and finally stopped it on a hillside but four of the smugglers fled while two of them were arrested.

Shakib said that a manhunt was underway to capture the fleeing men and the detainees were under investigation.

Haqqani, commander of Spin Boldak Battalion, said that the weapons included American machine guns, 3,000 bullets, one heavy machine gun, two carbine guns and some other type of weapons.

He said that it was unclear from where the men were smuggling the weapons.

It comes as many reports of weapons smuggling to Pakistan and detention of many people involved surface.
