2,200 drug addicts receive treatment in Farah

FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): Officials in western Farah province on Monday said 2,200 drug addicts taken to rehabilitation centers were treated and reunited with their families in the province.

Farah Central Prison chief Mullah Lal Mohammad Zakiri told Pajhwok Afghan News that the prison was now being used as a drug addicts rehabilitation center.

He said 2,200 addicts of total 2,700 who had been previously collected were treated so far while 490 others were still under treatment.

Dr. Muzammil, Farah public health director, told Pajhwok that they had created mobile treatment teams for treatment of drug addicts in the province.

The addicts are reunited with their families after receiving three months of treatment, he said.

Farah people welcomed the government’s move to collect drug addicts from Farah city for their treatment.

Khawanin, a resident of Farah city, told Pajhwok that drug addicts were involved in stealing people’s belongings.

“Now we are not afraid of anyone to steal our household items, now we sleep at night without any concern,” he said.

He said that the government should continue collection of drug addicts and their treatment in Farah city.

He said that treatment of drug addicts was good both for the addicts and the society.

After the Taliban took control of the country,drug addicts in many parts of the country are collected and reunited with their families after receiving treatment.
