KABUL (Pajhwok): Around 300 Afghans, who spent seven months in refugee camps in Abdu Dhabi, returned to Afghanistan on Wednesday.

These people were transferred to temporary camps after evacuation from Afghanistan in August 2021 by US military and were expected to be transferred to the US after the inspection of their documents.

The reason behind the return of these Afghans was said to be the lack of enough residential facilities in the US.

Almost one month earlier, these Afghans protested against the delay in their transfer to their final destination and the problems they were facing in camps.

On March 04, a top US diplomat apologized to protesting evacuees in Abu Dhabi and assured them that the process of their transfer to final destination would be accelerated.

The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation officials could not be reached for comment about the return of Afghans from Abu Dhabi.

It is pertinent to mention that so far 85,000 Afghan evacuees have been resettled in the US and some in other countries.
