Plan for reopening girls’ schools being devised: MoE

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Education says a plan is being devised based on which girls will be able to attend classes with an Islamic Hijab.

On Wednesday morning, the Ministry of Education (MoE) announced the reopening of schools for girl students has been delayed until further order.

The ministry will inform all schools of the delay in resumption of classes for girl students of grade six and above.

“All schools will be formally informed about this after a comprehensive plan is devised and issued by the leadership of Islamic Emirate in line with Islamic and Afghan traditions.”

Meanwhile, Aziz Ahmad Ryan, spokesman for MoE, today at the beginning of the 1401 academic year in Kabul, said: “The girls’ schools will remain closed until further notice and a comprehensive plan is being evised to ensure the complete safety of girls in schools, the completion of female teachers and the observance of the Hijab.”

He added: “The ministry is preparing a plan in line with Islamic teachings and Afghan tradition and the reopening of girl’s schools is up to the Islamic Emirate.”

Responding a quarry, he replied: “The Islamic Emirate does not have any discriminatory views towards any section of society, the delay in reopening girls schools is due to the completion of the draft.”

Meanwhile, Sahar Frotan, a student of 11th grade at the Mustafa Ghaznawi High School, told Pajhwok they came with a lot of enthusiasm to the school this morning but were not allowed to enter the school.

She recalled on the Islamic Emirate to reopen the girls’ schools as soon as it was possible and not ignore talents of the girl students in education sector.
