Hundreds of weapons, military equipment collected in Kunar

ASADABAD (Pajhwok): A Ministry of Defense delegation on Tuesday said it had collected  132 military vehicles and 338 Kalashnikov assault rifles in eastern Kunar province during the past four months.

Maulvi Saeedullah, head of the delegation sent to the province by the Ministry of Defense, told Pajhwok Afghan News the vehicles and equipment had been handed over to them by people in Narai, Ghaziabad and Asmar districts.

He said the equipment included 83 Rangers, 43 Humvees, six large international vehicles and 338 Kalashnikov assault rifles.

“These weapons and military equipment belong to the Ministry of Defense, which were confiscated by the general public and some members of the Islamic Emirate during the regime change and have now been returned voluntarily,” he said.

He called on the people to voluntarily hand over weapons and other military equipment to the government.

At the same time, some Kunar residents praised those who voluntarily handed over weapons and military equipment to the government.

Hazrat Ali, a resident of Hazar Kot area of ​​Asmar district in Kunar, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the government should search the homes of people who had taken weapons and ammunition from military bases during the fall of the previous regime.

Abdul Ghani, a tribal elder and resident of Shah Masir village in Kunar’s Narai district, said collecting weapons from unauthorized persons would help improve security.
